Over and Out (for 2022)

A HUGE thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all our riders & spectators!!

For those of you who are new around here and don’t know the humble beginnings of the MotoCheapie… It was a dream of Andrew “Petrol Sniffer” for years to create his own race, to try and bring racing to the general public by making it as affordable as possible. In Andrew’s own words “It can’t be that hard to keep it cheap” and thus the slogan was born.

In June 2020, during lockdown, Andrew put together this event proposal and approached a few different venues. Most of which simply turned him away thinking the idea wasn’t viable, especially during a nationwide (uhm….worldwide) lockdown. But yet, he persisted! He met with Jaen and Ella from Dirt&Dust and they saw the vision and gave us a chance. And so we scheduled the first event for 28 November 2020.

We got to work immediately. Andrew sourcing ALL the cheap bikes he could, getting them into a running condition and pitching the idea to friends and strangers to get teams together. I, on the other hand quickly heading into my third trimester with our first child, was doing all the admin and behind-the-scenes organising to try make the day run as smoothly as possible. Mind you, neither of us had any experience in organising an event of this scale!

Race day rolled around and we had managed to attract 23 teams with 70 riders. We were chuffed! All this in lockdown, while not being able to advertise the event to spectators (’cause you know…lockdown regulations at the time) and our daughter was barely 2 months old.

And just look where we are now – nearly 2 years later, we have just had the 6th overall round of the MotoCheapie. The statistics speak for themselves. Just look at this incredible growth! It would not be possible without your support!

We are so thankful for having met an amazing bunch of people through the MotoCheapie and so many people have gotten on board to make this event bigger and better than we could have ever hoped it to be. I guess the old adage, “it’s not what you know, but who you know”, definitely does ring true.

We have mentioned plenty of times that the idea behind the event is for everyone to just have fun! We are so thrilled to be getting so many people interested and excited for motorsport. We are not wanting to turn this into a corporate event. Up until this point in time, each round COSTS us money to host. Across 6 rounds, we’ve probably broken even once. At no point have we even turned a slight profit.

On this note, I feel it’s only appropriate for us to announce the official dates for the 2023 MotoCheapie Championship. Pull out your diaries (or just click the buttons below) to add them to your calendars. We are SO excited to see what next year has in store for us!

Until we speak again,

Keep spannering
Keep the gees….
And as always
Keep it cheap😁👍🏻🤞🏻👏🏻
